Even typing the word cozy makes me want to cover up with a fuzzy blanket and make another cup of tea. Even though I’ve grown up in Saskatchewan and have become accustomed to it, I still cringe on cold winter mornings and dark chilly nights when the wind blasts me in the face. Therefore, the simple act of sliding on a pair of comfy slippers gives me a feeling of warmth and comfort.
In North America we don’t have a term for what the Danish and Norwegian call Hygge: a quality of coziness and comfortable warmth that engenders a feeling of contentment or well-being. In fact, in 2016 Hygge started surfacing as an act of selfcare and although not defined in our culture, it made me think that many of us are already practicing this.
