The mid-winter February school break arrives and who doesn’t feel like they need an escape? From school, from work, from winter – the call to get away from it all is a seductive siren.
But as we’ve learned during the pandemic, we can’t always jump on a plane and head to parts unknown. Sometimes we need to get creative in our own backyard to scratch that itch.
I don’t know who came up with the idea, but Escape Rooms have sprung up across the province and really come into their own over the past few years. Great entertainment for families with teens and older generations, these outlets give groups the framework to work together to problem-solve and pretend, with the thrill of winning the game in the end.
If you can’t leave the province this time and are running out of things to do, why not try a trip back in time, or become a pirate on the open seas for a day in your own backyard?
1- District 8 Escape – Prince Albert
Play a live-action game of Clue or join the department of Homeland security.
2- Escape City – Saskatoon
Work for a famous magician or crawl inside the human brain.
3- Escape Manor – Saskatoon and Regina
In Saskatoon, add a little axe-throwing and debrief the adventure in the pub to round out the evening.
4- Little Chicago Entertainment – Moose Jaw
Enter the underground locales of Al Capone and alcohol smuggling in the 1940’s.
5- District 3 Escape Rooms – Regina
Include virtual reality to your escape experience and enter pop culture worlds like Assassin’s Creed, Prince of Persia and Alice in Wonderland.
6- Unravel Escape Room – Weyburn
Step into a pirate mystery or enter Area 51 if you’re up for the challenge.
Whatever your destination, mum’s the world. Like a trip to Vegas, what happens there stays there so those that follow can experience the fun. Take a few photos and memories with you but not the secrets of your success.
Many of these businesses also went online during the pandemic and still offers puzzles you can partake in from the comfort of your couch. So, if you are taking staycation to the next level this year, these stops are still an option for you.
