May 7, 2019

The best gift you can give your mom on Mother’s Day is to spend time with her. Plan a day of it and take her out to eat at these great restaurants across Saskatchewan.

1. Regina: Skye Café & Bistro

Owners and husband-and-wife Louise Lu and Milton Rebello are the passionate, friendly and talented duo behind Skye Café and Bistro. The restaurant is the perfect location for a Mother’s Day brunch. Their weekend menu includes crab cake benedict and chilaquiles. But it’s their savoury waffles that really stand out, topped with Cajun fried chicken, gravy and spiced greens grown in-house. Beyond the menu, the restaurant setting is cheerful and full of Chef Lu’s pottery, paintings, and plants. In fact, Chef Lu makes all the dishware, including their brightly speckled drinking glasses.

2. Maple Creek: The Rockin’ Horse Cookhouse & Bar

The Rockin’ Horse Cookhouse & Bar in Maple Creek prides itself on making delicious comfort food from scratch that’s sourced from local growers and producers. Their Mother’s Day brunch buffet is from 11:00 am till 3:00 pm. It includes French toast stuffed with cream cheese and Saskatoon berries with wild blueberry syrup, eggs benedict with house-made English muffins and Hollandaise sauce as well as corned beef hash and carved smoked beef with horseradish sauce.

Looking for a to-go option in Maple Creek? Stop in at The Shop Bakery & Deli. Owner and Chef Jordyn Winzer will have a Mother’s Day meal to-go so you can pick it up to take home (or straight to your mom’s place). The best part is, it’s all ready to serve.

3. Forget: The Happy Nun Café

The Happy Nun Café is owned by long-time residents Leon and Gayla Gilbertson who bought the restaurant in 2017. Their brunch menu includes homemade apple and cinnamon Greek yogurt pancakes topped with roasted apples and salted caramel, a perfect sweet-treat for Mother’s Day. Brunch is available from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm and reservations are recommended but not required.

4. Elk Ridge Resort: Fireside Dining Room and Terrace

Elk Ridge Resort is the perfect destination to not only spend the day with your mom but treat her to an entire weekend away. The resort is only two kilometres from Prince Albert National Park to head out for lovely walks amongst nature on the boardwalk trails. If the outdoors isn’t her thing, treat your mom to spa services at the resort’s Salacia Spa. For Mother’s Day, Chef Travis Pye prepares a brunch buffet at the Fireside Dining Room and Terrace which often includes a complimentary champagne “mom”osa for her.
