Lot’s of Love at Home

February 10, 2023

Valentine’s Day has been celebrated for centuries. In fact, Geoffry Chaucer wrote a poem in 1375 symbolizing the love and devotion that partners share with one another. Over the years the day has evolved into a celebration of love, no matter what your relationship status may be. Girlfriends now celebrate friendship, parents show extra love to children and giving yourself some extra TLC on February 14th are all considered our new, modern Valentine’s Day practices. Cheers to that!

The way we mark this occasion has also evolved over the years. For a period, the pandemic limited our ability to enjoy a traditional fancy supper out. We became innovative in the many ways we could have a happy Valentine’s Day at home and these ideas have stuck around. There are plenty of creative and enjoyable ways to celebrate the holiday with your partner, kids, and friends without having to leave home.

One great way to celebrate Valentine’s Day at home is by having a dinner or brunch together. You can get creative with recipes and make something special, like heart-shaped pancakes or a romantic candlelit dinner. This will give you time to relax with one another while still enjoying some delicious food without having to go out. Another option is to plan an at-home spa night. Put on some relaxing music, light some candles and spend the night giving each other pedis or doing face masks. Both activities can be incredibly relaxing and enjoyable for couples or friends who don’t want anything too fancy for this holiday.

If cooking isn’t your thing, you can order from a restaurant that offers delivery near you and still enjoy something tasty in the comfort of your own home. Since it is Valentine’s Day after all, why not treat yourself (or each other) with gifts? A nice bouquet of roses or any type of flower arrangement is always appreciated on this special day; plus it will instantly add a romantic atmosphere into your home environment! Additionally, if you are looking for something more meaningful than materialistic items like presents; consider making scrapbooks dedicated to your relationship or a photo montage of the many years you’ve been friends. This way it can also be something both parties keep forever as memories!

Including your kids in the Valentine’s Day celebrations is another great way to spread the love. Make a special Valentine’s meal with a colour theme of pink or red. We like to add pink food coluring to our milk to make the drink festive. Baking sugar cookies and decorating them together is another fun activity for the special day. This also works well with cupcakes just make sure you have lots of fun sprinkles. If you want to make the event sentimental, hand out paper hearts and have each person write what they love about each other on the heart. Hang them on the wall and you’ll have memories of the day for weeks to come.

No matter what kind of celebration you decide on this Valentine’s Day at home; don’t forget that the most important thing is taking some extra quality time off from work or other duties and spending it together or taking care of yourself. Celebrate Valentine’s Day at home this year, but make sure it feels special all the same!
