Are you one of the many excited couples who were planning to celebrate your love this year by tying the knot? For many, the best part of their wedding day is creating lasting memories with family and friends.
Many couples had to change their plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic. With new guidelines and restrictions on social gatherings, physical distancing, and uncertainties as to when they will be lifted, many have cancelled, postponed, or kept their original date but modified their plans to follow Public Health Orders.
If you have ever planned a wedding, you know what goes into making memories that will last forever. You need caterers that dish out mouthwatering meals, wedding venues that can accommodate your guests and suit your needs, wedding planning supplies such as décor, table settings and linens, etc.
We were curious how our Saskatchewan couples are doing and how they are adapting, so we contacted a few of them to see what’s happening.
Here’s what we found out.
Most people were able to keep their original date but had to modify by adjusting the number of invited guests and/or changing venues. Only a few have postponed their dates in order to keep their original invited guests and venue.
Due to social gatherings limited to 30 guests both inside and outside, some have changed their venue to a backyard setting. To accommodate close family members, one of our future bride’s brother-in-law has become a Marriage Commissioner and will be officiating the wedding making it even more memorable! Guests were notified of changes via email, Facebook and virtually.
With a smaller number of guests, catering has now changed from hotel food services to private caterers such as Rybchuk’s Catering Company (who serve any size crowd), and decadent cupcakes from Sinfully Sweet Cathedral Bakery in place of an elaborate cake (they come highly recommended).
So whatever path you choose, we recommend taking the advice of one excited bride: “the day will still be special, and you just have to roll with it’’. And even though plans may have had to change, love isn’t cancelled!
