YAY!!! National popcorn day will finally be here on January 19! I’ve been waiting all year for this day.
Popcorn is one of my favourite snack foods. It’s a healthy alternative to potato chips and cheezies with an array of mouthwatering flavours. A whole grain and high fiber snack that is full of nutrients with a low-calorie count, it provides many health benefits (if you exclude the butter and salt). Due to popcorn’s high fiber content it may reduce heart disease, diabetes and hypertension. Besides it’s health benefits It’s also a great snack to serve company.
Having guests over and don’t know what to serve that everyone will enjoy? From kids to adults, sweet to savoury, this is easy to prepare!
Try a few of these ideas gathered from some popcorn connoisseurs:
Don’t want to make your own? Check out some of our local Saskatchewan popcorn shops across the province:
*Note that plain popcorn has the most benefits. If you need additional healthy flavourings try natural flavoured olive oils. You can find a wide selection of olive oils at local stores such as Casa Decor or OLIV Tasting Room
So on January 19, I’m going to pop up some fresh popcorn on the stove top, drizzle it with truffle oil, sprinkle fresh grated parmesan cheese on top, shake it up, grab a warm after dinner beverage and relax and enjoy while researching a warmer destination!
