Get Spooked: 10 Saskatchewan Halloween Haunts to Visit in 2021
October 14, 2021
It sure hasn’t felt like it
lately but it’s almost Halloween time in Saskatchewan and that means time to
deck the house with bones and gory.
Decorating our house for
Halloween is second only to Christmas and it’s a family affair.
Building custom tombstones
last year was a great pandemic project to keep the kids engaged and there was
no shortage of inspiration in the community surrounding us.
Across the province each
year, local businesses and residents take skeletons out of their closets and painstakingly
create experiences to help us get our spook on.
Here’s a few that are creeping it real if you’re looking for a fright
this fall.
As a family always looking for things to do, driving around to take in the many local Halloween walk-through yard displays has become an annual tradition. It’s a Covid-friendly activity and the creativity of locals is sure to leave a smile.
Housed in the old Sears warehouse which is rumoured to have its own authentic resident ghosts, this one’s not for the faint of heart and is a favourite rite of passage for the teens in our family (Am I old enough for Shock House yet Mom?). One year we stood in line for hours only to have our daughter race through screaming in under 5 minutes. We have a new teen in our house so guess what’s on the slate this year… (insert evil laugh).
A haunted jaunt for the younger crowd put on by Southern Plains Co-op Limited. Take a walk through Woodlawn Regional Park with zombies, ghosts and scary creatures.
A cast of characters lurk in the forest waiting to give you nightmares. This one’s new this year so the reviews are not yet in, but I heard there are clowns…. (shivers).
This family farm is full of fun things to do all fall long, but the last week of October it gears up for Halloween. Night frights for the older crowd, and day versions sans actors for the littles.
Horror movies taught us that corn has a creepy side so it’s not hard to imagine those fun daytime mazes turning down right ear-y when the sun goes down. Prince Albert Paintball offers a haunted house and haunted maze that they promise gets scarier as the night goes on.
Ghost and goblins have taken over the greenhouse at the much-loved local Berry Barn! While you’re there, pick out a pumpkin to carve from their Pumpkin Patch and keep the fun going after you leave.
Spend the afternoon with Wheatland Express on a trip filled with Halloween-themed family entertainment or an interactive experience that challenges guests to escape a headless train conductor.
You can ride the Ghoul Bus on a guided tour through an entire haunted town filled with creepy characters. Don’t wait to get your tickets, this one sold out last year.
Whether you’ve got spirit or
spirits this Halloween, it’s a holiday with something for everyone young and
old. So, let’s get out the coffins and cobwebs and get this party
startled!
Do you have a favourite haunt we should come visit? Let us know on Facebook or Twitter.
Before travelling, make sure to check online so you know all you need to before you go. If there’s a fee, it’s often cash-only and some operations have Covid restrictions.
