Top 9 Things to Do in Saskatoon before a Rush Game
A few weeks ago, I was lucky enough to get an offer from a friend of mine to attend my first ever Saskatchewan Rush game. I never thought twice about accepting the offer, despite not being the biggest lacrosse fan out there (I’ve never played, hockey and baseball took over my younger years). I had heard nothing but good things about the gameday atmosphere in the arena, and I can tell you it didn’t let me down. What. A. Game. The Rush ended up winning 9-7 in a nail biter to the end.
BUT, I’m not here to give a play by play or highlights of the game. When I first accepted the offer, I thought about how great of an idea it would be to try and highlight some of my favourite local restaurants, things to do, and places to visit in Saskatoon. With that being said, I put together my top 9 (cause 10 is played out) list of restaurants to visit and a couple of other things to do in Saskatoon during the day of a Rush game below:
Brunch
Without a doubt my favourite meal of the day, I have no shortage of top brunch spots to visit:
1. Hometown Diner: Located in downtown Saskatoon amongst a ton of popular shopping spots, Hometown Diner serves the freshest breakfast all day to get you your quick brunch fix.
2. Broadway Café: This 50’s style diner also serves all day breakfast, but you can also get delicious burgers and shakes in case your feeling some afternoon grub instead.
3. Drift Sidewalk Cafe: Drift puts on the “Vista Brunch” on Saturday’s in the winter, with some specialty dishes as well as an a la carte menu. If you’re visiting for a game in the spring, you might be able to catch a spot on the rooftop patio as well!
4. Darkside Donuts: Okay fine, this isn’t brunch, but who doesn’t love donuts? Stop by Darkside after a fantastic meal and pick up a delicious handcrafted donut from scratch.
Dinner
5. Great Buffet of China: With the largest buffet in all of Saskatoon, hit up this spot and you’ll be sure to fill up for a long night of cheering the Rush on ahead of you (and maybe a pint or two also).
6. The Cave: Visiting The Cave will be sure to give you a memorable dining experience. With a unique cavern atmosphere including waterfalls, you’ll have a great visit while enjoying some of the finest cuisine that Saskatoon has to offer.
7. Cactus Club Cafe: I’ve included this option for some of our readers that want to enjoy a good drink with a top-notch meal. Cactus Club’s Happy Hour menu will keep your thirst quenched while giving you great prices on some burgers, sandwiches, and bowls.
Day-Time Spots
8. Beverly Ashdown Day Spa: Take a deep breath before you head out for the evening and enjoy a nice massage, mani/pedi, or facial at one of the best spas in town.
9. Remai Modern: The newest museum in the heart of Saskatoon, the ground floor is always free to the public and gives you the chance to see large scale art commissions, a changing gallery space, and an active learning studio.
Well, I guess I need to visit Saskatoon again for another Rush game if I want to visit all these spots. While you definitely can’t hit them all in one day, I’m sure you can scratch a few of ‘em off your list.
